Condolence: I was so sorry to hear of Gerald Irish's passing (he will always be Mr. Irish to me), and also sorry that I was unable to attend his funeral.
Mr. Irish came into my life September 1956. I was going into grade six at S.S. #2 Stanhope, Upper Maple Lake. Our one room school was the first to have Mr. Irish fresh out of teacher's college. I had Mr. Irish for three years until I went to high school in Haliburton. Through the years Mr. Irish touched the lives of my four children at some level of the Haliburton County school system.
One of the things I remember best about Mr. Irish was his love of music. He instilled that love in many of us. His favourite singers were Johnny Mathis and Harry Balafonte. To this day, whenever I hear these singers, I think of Mr. Irish.
His memory will live on!Rest in peace Mr. Irish.

Condolence: I will miss all the wise words he wrote in the Senior Moments of the newspaper. They were always encouraging and inspiring and yes, you could hear the laugh. I will miss seeing him in the grocery store shopping for his Joan and westies. He wrote about the loss of one of his dogs and how sad he was for weeks but he was going to turn that around as he had many more things to be happy about. I have just gone through the loss of our westie and his words are in my mind and help me get through it. The community is going to miss you Gerry.Rest in PEACE.
