Obituary

In Loving Memory of Andy (Nip) Murdison

Andy (Nip) Murdison enjoyed one last summer at his favourite place, Lake Boshkung, before passing in the morning of September 27th, 2019 in his 74th year, with his family by his side. As a founding member of the Lake Boshkung Skiers, Andy turned his passion for sport and his athleticism into countless Canadian Water Ski Championships (one of his records still stands today), representing Canada twice at the World Championships, twice in the Pan Am Games and ultimately an induction into the Canadian Water Ski Hall of Fame. Also an avid snow skier, Andy spent time on the Avalanche Patrol one season in Switzerland with his dear friend Garth and 46 years as an active member of Caledon Ski Club. Andy's passion for sport and the outdoors led him to a successful career with Mercury Marine, then as a partner of UTC Ltd, a sporting goods manufacturing and distribution company and sat on many boards in those two industries as well as the CWSA.

Andy's wife Bev (nee Hendy) shared his passion for the cottage, sport and the outdoors. Naturally their two sons Andrew and Tom were on skis (water and snow) as early as possible with world-class coaching from their Dad. Andy was always highly engaged with Andrew and Tom's activities, creating a fantastic bond built around sport, family and community. Those values are now being passed to his four grandchildren, Andrew, Bohdi, Juliette and Nathan with the help of their mothers Jenn and Virginie. Boshkung brought together everything Andy loved the most, his aforementioned family, his two sisters Bonnie (Brad) and Jennie (Paul), and his niece and nephews. As well as Bev’s sisters Julie and Sue (Jock) and brother Tom (Judy) and many nieces and nephews at the chalet at Caledon in the winter. The family wants to thank the doctors and nurses at the hospital in Haliburton for their care and compassion his last few days.

We will be sharing stories and toasting rum and cokes to Andy's incredible life on Saturday, October 26th from 11:00 to 2:30 at the Pepper Mill Steak House, 15141 Hwy 35, Carnarvon. Please join us with your best memories of Andy/Nip.

Donations can be made in his memory to Haliburton Highlands Health Services Foundation (HHHSF) or the Charity of your choice and can be arranged through the Gordon A. Monk Funeral Home Ltd., P.O. Box 427, Minden, Ontario K0M 2K0.

Summers were always spent on Lake Boshkung and that meant spending the summer water skiing, and that meant Andy Murdison and friends, Bill Cherry, Ross Pawson, Carol Warrington and me, getting in as much skiing as possible. Andy was always there ready to encourage and help me keep my skis together! But I remember so many other fun times. Lots of parties and weddings.

We were fortunate to spend some time recently, with Bev, for which we are grateful. Our thoughts are with Bev, Andrew, Tom and family.

Lake Boshkong was the place I first got a one ski deep water start. From then on both Andy and his Dad were behind my quest to become a world champion. When my dream came true the Murdison family was there to share in my success. As a child skiing with the club, all I wanted was one of those great jackets that Andy would wear! My prayers are with you as we all remember one of our pioneers of water skiing. Pat Messner C. M.

He was a gem! From the early 90's on, Andy became a huge part of our lives and we join the family in grieving over his loss. He introduced Tom and I and our children to cottage life, not something we ever would have done without Andy and Bev! From early morning drop ins with the chainsaw to clear our overgrown lot, to late evening moonlight cruises enjoying a glass of wine, he helped us make cottage life a paradox of hard work and wild fun! Progressive dinners in Aurora, fun times on the ski hills, and reflecting on how similar our family lives were, we cannot help but remember Andy as a strong, athletic man who got things done! Our sincere love and support is extended to Bev, Andrew and Jenn, and Tommy and Virginie! We wish you many happy memories as you move through this very difficult time. Tom and Tricia Dyson and family

I am extremely sad for your loss and know that the memories and accomplishments of Andy over time might soften the pain. Like so many I had the great fortune to spend considerable time with you Bev and Andy since we worked in the same business. Never in my entire life did I hear a word from Andy that was either nasty or condescending. A true gentleman, a great husband, a super father and a wonderful friend who will be never forgotten by his friends. Sincerely Murray Merkley
