Obituary

In Loving Memory of Dr. John Kimball Kerr
November 20, 1930 - May 20, 2019
Passed away peacefully at Haliburton Hospital on Monday, May 20, 2019.

Predeceased by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 55 years, Madge (née Campbell). Dear father to John and his wife, Jocelyne, Lynda and her husband, Dave (Saracino), and Bill and his wife, Lisa. Predeceased by his cherished twin brother, Jim, and older brother, David. Survived by his younger brother, Bill. John’s love will be missed by his dedicated companion of seven years, Claudette Dupuis. John’s affection, generosity, and sense of humor will be forever remembered by his grandchildren, Christie (Adam Santucci), Steven, Ryan, J.J., Loretta, Alexandra and Beverley, as well as his adored great-grandson, River, and his many nieces and nephews.

John was a prominent dentist in Scarborough, Ontario for more than 37 years. His generous, charitable spirit was dedicated to both The Rotary Club of Scarborough and The Rotary Club of Minden. John was an avid golfer who played the game for many years at Scarborough Golf & Country Club and Blairhampton Golf Club, as well as at his favorite Maple Leaf Estates in Port Charlotte, Florida.

In his younger years, John’s athleticism brought him and his twin, Jim, to Bridlewood Squash Club, where they both fulfilled their love of the game of Squash with good friends for many years. John was also a passionate runner, skier, wood carver and hunter for many years.

For the past several years, John has enjoyed spending time in Shediac, New Brunswick with Claudette and her family, but his very favorite place on Earth was always at his home on Mountain Lake in Minden, which he graciously shared with family and friends over many memorable years.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff and doctors at Haliburton Hospital for the dignity, compassion and care they bestowed upon John while in their care.

Friends are invited to visit the family at the Gordon A. Monk Funeral Home Ltd., 127 Bobcaygeon Rd., P.O. Box 427, Minden K0M 2K0 on Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 10:00 am until the time of the Service to Celebrate John’s life at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow at the Red Umbrella Inn, 1075 Red Umbrella Rd., Minden. Cremation has taken place.

As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial donations may be made to the Volunteer Dental Outreach for Haliburton County (VDO).

Romans 8:18 “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

To the Kerr family.
I just heard the sad news about your beloved father passing away in May. I saw his picture on the counter in the office.
I am so saddened by the news.
I had been going to John since I was years old. I broke my front teeth in an accident when I was 10 years old and treated me so kindly through the needed work. He was a gentle soul and so charismatic..always with his famous smile!
May this gentleman rest in peace.
My deepest sympathy to your family and friends.

Overcome with emotion this morning now that everyone has left and things are going back to the "new normal," It struck me that Pa and Gramma together showed and taught me by their example the value and joy of sharing their generous hospitality with friends and family by opening their hearts , home and cottage. It is so much fun at the time and for the families and friends who visit it creates enduring memories of happy times. This was Pa's life with Gramma. There is also great value in the peace and quiet when "it's Over." Your guests are back in their homes safely and you can enjoy the fact that your efforts were appreciated. The quiet time of reflection, was Pa's time with Claudette. He was no longer as interested in the loud and party times, and could take it in increasingly smaller doses. He wanted to sit and look out at the lake or golf course, watch his sports on T.V and enjoy knowing his children and grandchildren were healthy, safe and happil
y living their respective lives. Claudette was able to devote almost 100% of her attention to Pa while he did this. This is what Pa wanted and needed. I didn't really realize it until this moment that Pa had changed gears in his life and I so wanted him back to his old self that may have misinterpreted his new lifestyle as rejection when he declined our invitations to family dinners and gatherings. I shouldn't have taken it so personally because Pa just wanted the peace after the hectic weekend. Rest in peace now John. With love forever, Lisa

John, Linda and Bill, So sorry for your loss. What wondeful photos and memories you have.
I just heard about this an hour ago and would have come to Minden for the service.
I tried to visit a few years ago and it was the day after your Dad had the lawn tractor accident.
I spoke with Alex and saw your Mom at the time, but she didn't remember me then.
We have such good memories from Rossander Court and of course I always shared my birthday with John and Jim.
Take care. I'm sending love and hugs. Louise Bell xox

Dear Bill and Kerr Family,
I would like to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. The loyalty of your patient base speaks volumes about your fathers character, and when it`s all done and said what matters most is " the dash" ( between the birth and death date).
Love and Sincere Appreciation
Jennifer Broome
