Obituary for June Phillips

In Loving Memory of June Phillips

It’s with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Mother, June Phillips, on May 12, 2022 in her 85th year. Her extended journey with dementia is now over.

Mom lived in the same house in Kinmount for the last 63 years. Losing her husband Jack in 1979, left her raising 3 teenaged daughters on her own. She and Dad owned Canadian Lumber which she continued to operate after his passing. As a woman in a male dominated business, she encountered many challenges. She eventually sold the business and continued to work as the General Manager of Rokeby Lumber until she retired in 2002.

Mom also served many years on the Victoria County Economic Development Committee where her business expertise was valued.

Mom had many passions outside of work. She loved to bake. Her chocolate cakes were legendary with the recipe top secret! When not baking, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing and gardening. She was also a long time Board of Director with the Kinmount Fair. As with any volunteer position, she wore many hats, including President, Home Craft Director, Building Committee Member and Chair of the Entertainment Committee. She passed the torch at the age of 80, to a younger generation.

Mom was feisty and fearsome, never backing down from a challenge. We will remember her with much love and respect.

She sadly leaves her 3 daughters, Susan Strong (Kenneth), Mary Anne Phillips and Lynne Ashbridge (Len). Loving Grandma June Bug to Megan Strong (Zach) and Ethan Strong. Remembered also by her brother Hugh Armstrong (Ruth), sister Mary Ellen Elliott (Clark (2020), sister-in-law to Gwen Phillips and by her many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Special thanks to PSWs Gayle, Susan and Jackie for their care, compassion and support during Mom’s journey.

A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at a later date. In her memory, we ask that you please pay it forward and do something kind for another.
