In Loving Memory of Craig Saunders

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Godfrey Craig Saunders on July 1, 2020 in his 57th year.

Best friend and husband of Melissa Stephens, loving son of Marie and Godfrey (deceased) Saunders and dear brother of Sean ( Helen) and Lori (Jason Martin). Lovingly remembered by his sister-in- law Janie Ward Sampson, nieces and nephews Emily, Patrick, Hannah, Emma, Jacob and Todd. Also, he is fondly remembered by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Craig will be remembered for his love of music, art, theatre and of course sports. He was an avid reader and enjoyed the occasional “discussion” about politics.

Special thanks to Dr. Michael Armstrong and the staff of the Haliburton Family Medical Clinic, the Peterborough Regional Health Centre and Toronto Western Hospital. You have all played a special role in Craig’s care over the last 15 years.

A Celebration Craig’s of Life and reception will be held when we can all gather together again.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (on-line) or to the Haliburton Highlands Secondary School Scholarship Fund - Craig Saunders Memorial Bursary and can be done through e-transfer at or by cheque mailed to the Gordon A. Monk Funeral Home Ltd., P.O. Box 427, Minden, Ontario K0M 2K0.

Craig played an online game for years called Kingdom of Loathing. He was funny, he was opinionated (especially about politics), he was dedicated to his clan, and he will be missed greatly. It was a loss to all of us.

Very sorry to hear this Melissa. I have so many really funny memories of the summers I spent working with Craig, you, Kent and the team at Northern Eagle. He was so smart and so able to slide into a million different conversations with panache. He introduced me to all sorts of things - Leonard Cohen's music, Frank Herbert's Dune, what it feels like to get blast of solid freon in the face, how not to drive the lawnmower into the trees... Wishing you all manner of good memories, laughter and lightness as you move forward.
