Obituary for David Michael Crete

In Loving Memory of David "Dave" Michael Crete

On January 8, 2023, our beloved David Michael Crete passed away suddenly in a tragic accident in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada. Born on October 19, 1979, Dave was only 43 years old.

Residing in Haliburton, in his haven with his treasured family, he leaves behind his forever soulmate, Leann Crete and his adored children, Zayden and Violet. Dave is survived by his loving parents Gilles and Claudine Crete; dearest brother Brad (Ornella) and sister Ange (Rich); niece Hailey, nephews Isaac and Cooper. Dave is also survived by his doting mother and father- in-law, Antonio and Beatriz Faria; much loved sisters-in-law Sylvia (Spencer) and Elsii; nieces Bronte, Avery and Kaiya, great-niece Madyson and great-nephew Mason; and brother-in-law Kevin. He will be missed by a host of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Dave studied photography at Algonquin College and loved taking photos of the natural environment, his wife, kids and their many adventures. He signed his enigmatic and dynamic photographs “Mr. Dave Crete.” In 2015, he and his wife bought a cottage resort in Haliburton County. The family really bonded there, enjoying many priceless moments by the lake. They looked forward to hosting their numerous guests, many of which became dear friends. Early in his life, he began cabinet making and mastered the art of creating kitchens through his company, Cretations; he was excited to build their dream kitchen in their new home.

Dave was an artist, a carpenter, a business owner, a nature lover, a great storyteller and so much more. He was a sensitive soul with a heart of gold. Loved by everyone, he was often behind the scenes lending a helping hand, delighting mesmerized children, having fun with friends, creating something unique and making his magic. He was larger than life, followed his dreams, made the most of every moment and always celebrated life to the fullest.

Dave’s fun-loving and attentive nature made each person he connected with feel special, even those he had just met. He had an unusual blend of qualities that made him uniquely amazing; he was a family man, responsible, loving, joyful, skilled, creative, funny and warm. His strength of character and integrity kept him rooted and his playfulness kept him light. His joy of life was contagious. He was the epitome of authenticity. He said what he felt, spoke from the heart and showed his emotions to those he loved.

He continuously evolved and accomplished so much with Team Crete (his beautiful family of four). Leann and Dave grew and matured together with their children; they learned how to love and compromise in a way that supported them both and were beyond happy. After a devastating house fire in 2019, Dave and his family were beginning anew and were at a beautiful stage in their lives. They lived in their dream home, enjoyed a precious family vacation together over the holidays and had many plans for the future. His family was his world and he was theirs.

He met his wife, Leann, 23 years ago and they were celebrating 15 years of marriage this year. It was love at first sight; there was so much love and passion between them and were looking forward to their next chapter in life. He cherished Leann for giving him two precious children. Dave and Leann were best friends, partners, lovers and playmates. They followed their hearts and made time for fun and adventure, even if it was just driving for errands. Dave and Leann always valued, loved and appreciated each other, even during the hardest of times. Each was the other’s solace and comfort; he was her rock and she was his; and they fit perfectly together in every way. A true love like theirs is rare.

Dave, Leann, Zayden and Violet shared a deep bond together as a family and they each had their own special relationships. Dave was the best dad and he was so proud of both Zayden and Violet and expressed it to everyone who would listen. Zayden was his best friend and buddy; they loved hanging out together and talking the night away. Dave loved the man Zayden had become and he was so excited for his future, as Zayden had just entered his first year of university. Violet was his treasured little girl and she had him wrapped around her finger. They loved to chill out together and Dave thought the world of her. They always seemed to know what each was thinking without using words; and had a daily competition about who loved who the mostest. Dave felt that his children were the most real and authentic people he knew.

To have known Dave was a gift. He was the greatest husband and dad. He leaves behind a living example, helping us remember every little moment matters. The best way to honour his memory is to do good, be good and enjoy life every step of the way. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
