Obituary

In Loving Memory of Bruce Forbes Fleury

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 12, 2019 at Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay Ontario. At the age of 83.

Loving husband of Patti for 60 years. Caring, supportive father to David (Rita), Megan (Greg), Graeme and the late Paula Caitlin. Proud Grandpa to Emma, Austin and Ben.

Bruce believed deeply in the value of leisure pursuits to quality of life; serving in several positions with the city of Scarborough, eventually becoming its Commissioner of Recreation, Parks and Culture for 24 years. Bruce had an ongoing relationship with Centennial College initially as a Teaching Master and later on its Governing Structure. “Connemara Camp” was the jewel in his Triple Crown. Bruce will be sorely missed and warmly remembered as someone who earned his space on our planet earth. Good camp, safe trip. Appreciation is extended to Ross Memorial Hospital for the excellent care, under the direction of Dr. Munawar and Dr.Anwar.

Friends are invited to visit the family at the Gordon A. Monk Funeral Home, 127 Bobcaygeon Rd, P.O. Box 427, Minden K0M 2K0 on Sunday, June 23, 2019 from 1:00pm until the time of Service to Celebrate Bruce’s Life at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow in the Monk-Cray Family Centre at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place.

If desired, memorial donations to the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Bruce will be missed dearly by family and close friends. Bruce gave me one of my very first jobs with the Scarborough Park and Recreation Department. This opportunity was very instrumental for me to continue my post secondary education in the field of Physical Education and Recreation. Today, I lead a physical life as does my family, because of the opportunities Bruce provided for me to grow and 'Be' Ron Downey. My wife and kids partake today in this same physical and leisure culture because of his health philosophy. When Bruce coached and had things to share, people listened. The Connemara Camp experience and growing up around Crystal Lake with Bruce and family has been life changing. I enjoy the 'cottage life' today, because of Bruce. I cannot begin to express the love and compassion I feel. The Friday night drives to the farm with Bruce at the helm in the Ford Aerostar van with my buddy Dave gives me so much joy! Thank you so much Bruce! Our sympathies to Patti, all children and family. Love Ron, Mandy, Nicholas and Alexandra xo

Bruce Fleury was one in a million. He laughed loudly, spoke softly, and included everyone, always. My first boss in my first summer camp job, my love affair with teaching and the outdoors was born in the summer of 1980 because of lovely Bruce, his incredible wife Patti and their entire family at Camp Connemara. This beloved photo has sat on my desk for the last decade, through several chapters of life and the completion of a doctorate in teaching. From Patti and Bruce I saw the two gifts parents give their children: the first is roots, the other is wings. I send much love and gratitude to all of you, June Starkey
